Some great television shows end before there time should be through. Not because they were bad shows, usually because they were placed in the wrong time slot. There are shows that get cancelled before they air, shows that get cancelled after a few episodes and even shows that don’t make it past the first seasons. Here are a few shows that managed to air on television, but didn’t last.

Pushing Daisies made it through two seasons before it’s cancellation. It was a cute show about Ned, a pie maker, who had the ability to bring dead things back to life. You can find a quick rundown here After he brings the love of his life back from the dead he can not touch her again because she’ll return to death.

Wonderfalls made it through only one season and was about a girl who worked at a souvenir shop in Niagra Falls. Her listless and boring life becomes more exciting when inanimate objects begin speaking to her.

Windfall was a one season show about a group of friends who go in together to buy a lottery ticket and win the millions. Who would come out of the woodwork to be part of your life if you were suddenly rich?

Journeyman is another show that only made it through one season. A husband and father travels into the past to change people’s lives, is the premise of this story.

Moonlight was an awesome vampire show that only made it through one season. It had tons of potential, but was staked before it’s time.

Over the years, animated cartoons as a medium have changed a lot and continue to be used in new ways. Most of us have memories of the Saturday morning shows of our childhood—the talking animals and superheroes, the silly concepts and valuable, if clich, lessons. Western culture has generally seen animation as meant for children, not adults. In recent years, however, that has started to change, with cartoons taking up adult themes and with it, different airing times.

Some cartoons, like The Flintstones, already had a prime time slot decades ago, but the era of the adult cartoon is generally tied to The Simpsons’ 1989 premiere. It was both popular and controversial, as the assumption that cartoons were child-friendly naturally led to issues of children watching. Nevertheless prime time animation continued, with the mature (though child-friendly) Batman the Animated Series moving from Saturday morning for a short time.

The trend, of course, is still around today with shows like South Park and Family Guy. But cartoons are obviously still a child’s medium too; Saturday morning still features untold animated kids shows, and likely always will. As a medium cartoons have managed to serve both adults and kids, mornings and nights.

Whether you watch TV on your DVR, your Clear wire connection or on your old-fashioned TV set you’re probably like us – overwhelmed at all the channels. If you’ve bumped back down to basic cable, here are a few shows we can heartily recommend:
Intervention: The classic A&E docu-series, Intervention isn’t exactly a walk in the park. It’s hard hitting at hard to watch at times but it’s one of the realest shows on television and it can be supremely helpful to families facing addiction.
Millionaire Matchmaker: It’s still as fluffy as cotton candy but who doesn’t love to watch millionaire Los Angelinos squirming at the awkwardness of a first date? If you’re looking for dating tips this is actually a great show to put some credence in that Patti Stanger knows what she’s talking about.
Project Runway: We were worried that when the show switched networks it would lose some of its appeal but just the opposite happened. PR is now more serious and the designers are getting more and more innovative so it’s a great way to squirrel away an hour.

When science fiction enthusiasts gather, one of the popular discussion they may engage in is the relative merits of The Twilight Zone versus The Outer Limits. This is especially true of middle age and older sci-fi lovers. Of the two my vote would go for Twilight Zone. In part because it was there first, it set the standard and paved the way for Outer Limits, On Step Beyond and other science fiction television to come.
The Twilight Zone was about human nature and the frightening, unexplainable twists and turns life can take that land us in unfamiliar territory. The Outer Limits seemed to high-light science with a “watch out it can only lead to trouble” attitude. Outer Limits was similar to science fiction movies of the 1950s playing on fears of what science would unleash upon us if we weren’t careful.
The Twilight Zone message seemed to convey the message that the problem was with human nature and strange frightening things were around the corner regardless of our scientific endeavors. While Outer Limits was a cautionary tale about the scientific frontier, The Twilight Zone strove to show that there was no safety in avoiding any frontiers; strangeness abounds all around us.

How did the legal drama evolve to include the type of “over the top” antics, humor and lovable characters that we’ve see in “Boston Legal”? This blog is going to briefly look at the evolution of the legal drama starting with “LA Law”.

“LA Law” was the first wildly popular legal drama to hit network airwaves. The most important element of the legal drama was in place as many episodes were dealing with controversial issues such as homosexuality, AIDS, abortion and racism. Keep in mind that the evolved form of the genre (Boston Legal) would once again tackle all of these. The problem with “LA Law” was that it was all drama; it didn’t leave a lot of room for humor.

“The Practice” was brought along by David Kelly who also created the legal comedy “Ally McBeal”. “The practice” ran for eight seasons and was mostly serious but contained two important genes that needed to be passed on: Alan Shore and Denny Crane (these characters were respectively played by James Spader and William Shatner). With Shatner and Spader, audiences found the occasional giggle during the last season of “The Practice”, and the rest is history. These two characters were given their own spin off series “Boston Legal”. As all fans know “Boston Legal” tackles the issues expected of the legal drama while also mixing that “over the top” style of humor that made Ally so fun!

Ok, the 70′s were some of the worst music and fashion years in history right? That may be true but television in the 70′s was fantastic. None of this reality television crap. We had game shows and sitcoms. Family problems were solved in half an hour or an hour. No one was bed hopping or having “wardrobe malfunctions”. It was an era of good television.
Instead of “CSI” which shows how damage is done to the human body by certain elements and weapons we had “Quincy” which focused on his using his pathological evidence to prove a theory but also showed a life outside of his profession. We had sitcoms which showed problems and solutions to those problems all within the space of half an hour.
Game shows were fun to watch because they had real people and they actually were playing games that largely consisted of luck instead of the “popularity contests” that are being considered games now.
Now we have “Reality TV”. In the 70′s we used television to escape from reality. We watched families have fun together and squabble over little things like bathroom time.
Watching television in the 70′s was fun, now it’s just popularity contests.Related Article : Zodiak Media Game Show Audition

I love old western movies and tv shows from way back when! Growing up in my household was like a work schedule except without the work. Watching shows like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and, of course Maverick was a real treat for all of us.
When you have sharp shooters like Marshall Matt Dillon, whose style for catching bad guys was serious and to the point and always getting his man, made the youngsters want to grow up and be just like him. My brother on the other hand wanted to be like those fine fellows of the Ponderosa Ranch in Virginia City. He would dream of the day he could live on a ranch much like the Ponderosa and raise cattle and sheep but, that hasn’t happened yet.
Maverick on the other hand was different. Whether it be James Garner to Mel Gibson,, Maverick was a tale about a gambler who got himself into quite a few mishaps, but, in the end he pretty much always prevails. So, if you want the cowboys and indians then keep watching John Wayne, but, if you want everyday issues with a little humor around it then shows like Gunsmoke and Maverick are the way to go.The hits keep comin’: James Arness, ‘Gunsmoke’ actor, dies
